Our School Council

I would like  to let you know of the work of our School'sCouncil. This committee comprises of 2 elected representatives from each class (Y1 toY6), representatives from the Teaching Assistants,Lunchtime Supervisors and the Headteacher (Budget Holder). The aim of a School Council is to provide a voice for our pupils in the running of their school. Our School's Council meets at least once evry half term with class reps. bringing issues and ideas from the children they represent. These become Agenda points and are discussed, minuted and actioned. Mountbatten School's Council has been meeting on a regular basis over the last year and, we believe has proved to be very successful not only in it's achievements but also in providing grown ups with another channel to listen and appreciate pupil's views, opinions and their aspirations for the school.

Class representative, who are elected by their classmates, take their job very seriously and present their arguments convincingly.

2008

Achievements to date (which includes obtaining finance from the Headteacher) include:-

  • Changing the classes from numbers to names
  • Deciding on a way of choosing lunchtime football teams
  • Having our first ever Mountbatten School Sleepover
  • Older children reading to the younger ones.
  • 'Mountbatten's got Talent'  show.

September 2008

New School Council

Our first School Council meeting of the year took place on 24th September after all the classes had voted for new representative. After juice and biscuits the first thing we did was talk about the job of being a School Councillor.  One very important thing we had to discuss was 'Head for a Day'. Mr Summers had decided that he wanted an apprentice for a day and we all talked about that. We decided a good Headwould be:-

Responsible but knows how to have fun,

Is Brain Smart

Is the Best Worker and well behaved

Kind

Happy

We are looking forward to seeing who is chosen.

We talked about hings we want to happen in school this year. One of them is looking to see if we can become an Eco School.

After that we went back to our lessons.
